Technology Staff Leadership Development Series

Technology Staff Leadership Development Series
Effective Organizations, Leadership & Personal Development for Key Technology Staff
Series History
I have led similar leadership development sessions where participants have ranged from first-time supervisors to CFOs & VPs. Participants have come from education, nonprofits, sales, finance, medical, manufacturing, & marketing. Creating a specific group for technology staff within education emerged through a variety of conversations with district leadership noting the important role our technology staff now play in the success of the overall district.
Series Design
This series was designed to:
1) Offer exceptional training to key technology staff
2) Offer training & development in smaller, on-going portions to reduce time away from the job & no time in on the road (one session per month; 8:00 to 9:30 AM)
3) Build a cohort of similar staff that can use each other as professional & personal resources
4) Offer district leaders the benefit of supporting their technology staff to be even more effective

Series Rationale:
The topic of leadership development has long fascinated me as it is essential for healthy & developing organizations. With the ever-growing importance of technology within school districts, development of key technology staff is more important than ever.  This development needs to go beyond the ‘techie’ stuff and support the overall personal and professional development of individuals that support your district’s vision and mission.
Over the past 34 years, I have had the privilege to assist educational organizations throughout the United States and Canada in the areas of better strategic planning (aka “Chainsaw Planning”©), leadership development, managing conflict & difficult employees, & followership training.
An Important Observation
At one point, I was thinking about my most effective clients and realized that a key differentiator for those organizations was the presence of a strong, effective inside leader in his or her support role. You trust and rely upon them to manage their part of the organization as if it were their own.  These are the people that can:
  • Think like a leader or administrator
  • Model effective, healthy followership
  • Understand, promote & help deliver the organizational vision
  • Manage outcomes identified as essential within the strategic plan
  • Help employees to persist, succeed, & thrive
  • Learn new skills
  • Deal with role ambiguity
